How to schedule updates in Power BI

This article explains how to schedule Power BI reports – so as the data sources are updated automatically.

Of course, your report on powerbi.com needs an access to its data sources – so it has to be online (Google Analytics…) or on a server with gateway installed.

How to do it?

Report is published on powerbi.com. Then go to Dataset and Schedule Refresh.

Switch on “Keep your data up to date” and add few times, where the data should be automatically updated.

A few notes:

Now (summer 2018) you can set up to 8 refreshes a day
There are many troubles with authentication to sources, that have to be solved according to sources demands
There is an option to send info when refresh is not finished. I have to say it is not working in many cases and you can not rely on it. It have to be checked in “Refresh history”.
