This article is about calculating of percentages in Excel. Let’s see few model examples:

Change

Example

The revenue in January was 55, in February it was 59. How many percent was the increase?

Formula

=(59-55)/55

We are calculating the relation of change to original value.

Result

The revenue was 5,36% higher

Rates

Example

The price without tax is 252. The tax is 21%. What is the price with tax?

Formula

=252*(1+21%)

We want to see the price with tax, which includes price without tax and tax.

Result

The total price with tax is 305.

How many percent from total does the part make?

Example

We have 234 customers, from them 32 is from Europe. How many percent of our customers is from Europe?

Formula

=32/234

Result

13,6752% (=0,136752) of our customers are from Europe.

I know the total, I know the percentage of it and I want to know how big is this part.

Example

I have 8 kitten, 25% from them are tabby. How many tabby kitten do I have?

Formula

=8*0,25 (or =8*25%)

Result

Two kittens are tabby

I know how big is the part and know how many percent is it. What is the total?

Example

In a bottle of 40% whisky is 0,28l of pure alcohol. How big is the bottle?

Formula

=0,28/0,4
